Olly
and Frazer come to Hawaii |
March 4, 2007
After a 2 week stay, Olly and Frazer returned to Hawaii with me. We all missed Amy so Olly created her likeness to keep us company at the beach.
This is one of my favorite beaches on the island, Kua bay. Beautiful turquoise water, sand as soft as flour, and great body surfing.

Of course, I had to take them to see the lava which is only an hour's hike away now. We got some rain throughout the hike but were blessed with this rainbow on the way.
The skylight into a lava tube is still open. It appears as though it has belched out some lava since the last time I was there.
All the various shapes of lava are fascinating to come across on the hike.
There appeared to be at least 3 places where the lava was flowing into the ocean. The one we hiked to was not very active, but the next one down the coast was going off! We saw at least 20 little rivers of different sizes faning out over a shelf of lava and dropping into the ocean. It's hard to capture without a really long lens but you can see a few of those rivers in this picture.

Since Olly and Frazer left, I have been working a bit, and moved into my new jungle shack, stay tuned for pictures. As Olly said, it's the most rustic thing I've lived in so far, and for those of you who have been to my houses know that that's really saying something!
